HALF OF THE CITY OF MOSUL HAS BEEN DESTROYED

After 10 months of violent combat, Mosul – Iraq’s second city – has been devastated. Its residents are trying to rebuild their lives. Première Urgence Internationale has opened an operational base in the city to work as closely as possible with local people.

The military situation is calming down in Iraq. However, even though some people were able to go back to their hometown, the situation remains precarious. The instability and the conflict direct impact are causing major distress for the populations. Première Urgence Internationale is now including a mental health and psychosocial support element in all of its projects. Clare Shortall, medical technical coordinator for Première Urgence Internationale, explains the situation.

A construction project in Lebanon is overcoming prejudices

The town of Tal Meayyan, located in the Akkar governorate of Lebanon, is currently home to 7,000 residents, and is hosting around 2,500 Syrian refugees, according to the United Nations Refugee Agency. Their presence is increasing the economic pressure on a town that has its own structural problems to contend with.

Première Urgence Internationale restores cultural heritage in the Gaza Strip

Ramallah, 16 January 2018 – Première Urgence Internationale launched a programme with the financial support of the British Council’s Cultural Protection Fund, in partnership with Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) to preserve and promote cultural heritage in the Gaza Strip.

The Saint Hilarion Monastery in Gaza must be saved

Première Urgence Internationale has had a presence in the Gaza Strip since 2009. The teams contributes to rehabilitate two heritage sites in the Gaza Strip: the Saint Hilarion Monastery and a Byzantine Church in Jabaliyah. They are in danger of disappearing.

It is time to leave Gawilan camp in Iraq

Hassen, Hameed, Ali,  and Virginia, have all been working in Gawilan Camp for the past year, implementing a project aiming to improve the living conditions of Syrian refugees through a water and sanitation project.
